When is the last time you took a trip down Summer Avenue?  It is a veritable plethora of unique shops and restaurants, something for everyone!    

  1. Jerry's Snow Cones Legend has it that back in the 1930s a Sinclair gas station was located somewhere around 1657 Wells Station Rd. These same legends state that the owner of this gas station would make snow cones for kids while their parents had their cars worked on. Like all good legends, the lines of truth and tale are blurred about these early years, however, the next part of the story we know to be true. After the Sinclair station closed in the late ’60s a wonderful couple names L.B and Cordia bought the building and turned it into a car wash and snow cone shack...and the rest is history! After a director who was in town filming ”Great Balls of Fire” ran across the unique building, he asked if a scene from the movie could be filmed there. That's when word really began to spread, and Jerry’s became a destination for both locals and out of towners alike. They like to say they didn't invent the snow cone; just their ”World Famous Snow Cone Supreme”...think ice cream meets snow cone with a dash of pixie dust and unicorn tears...yes it is that good!! With flavors like Electric Slide, John Deere, Toxic Waste and my personal favorite, Wedding Cake, you can't go wrong! 
  2. Summer Drive-In The Summer Drive-In originally opened in 1948 west of the interstate. It moved to its current location in 1966 and expanded from 2 screens to 4. In 2014 they began Time Warp Drive-In Series featuring campy and cult classics. With children under ten admitted for free, it is a great budget-friendly family entertainment option...plus you can bring your own popcorn and drinks!! 
  3. Sweden Kream- Located at 1472 National this is a Memphis institution, not just for ice cream and milkshakes, but also for amazing hamburgers and hot wings.  Open Tuesday thru Saturday from 11am-8pm; it's worth the drive!
  4. Arlee's Ceramic Center-Located at 3221 Summer Arlee's is your one-stop ceramic stop.  The front of the stop is full of every kind of supply you could ever want or need for ceramics, and the back of the store is studio space for an artist at any level.  Arlee Applewhite has been working in ceramics for almost 40 years and offers classes and one-on-one lessons for those wanting to learn this art form.  
  5. And finally THRIFT STORE HEAVEN!!!!! From Repeat Boutique to Mattress Shop & Unique Finds,  whatever you are looking for I guarantee you can find some version of it at all the fantastic thrift shops located on Summer Avenue.
